While we hold our government responsible for maintaining order and insuring our safety we often recoil at the thought that our own actions might be restricted by an act of law or law enforcement. Poet and World Renown Barkeep Hamish Todd tells the story of a quiet book store that almost got a lot quieter. The News Stand in Bellingham, WA was cited in a suit for carrying a (at the time) little read magazine that describes rape scenes in graphic detail. Many agendas were served in the prosecution of an obviously innocent party. They were found innocent, but the hell they went through shows the undemocratic nature of our censorship laws.
