Synopsis: It is popular in some sectors of our society to state, “I am not political.” In reality, every choice we make day-to-day supports one political agenda or another. It can be exhausting to attempt to remain fully aware at all times of the implications, fall-out, and ramifications of our thoughts, speech, and actions. The point of this show is to offer suggestions on how to be political without becoming a political machine.
AMPT Radio illustrates this process with a look at some recent legislation

There are maybe a half dozen clear historical gaffes, but otherwise the show is absolutely evergreen.

AMPT Radio Episode 1: Censorship

There is an inherent conflict between order and freedom. While we hold our government responsible for maintaining order and insuring our safety we often recoil at the thought that our own actions might be restricted by an act of law or law enforcement. This edition of AMPT Radio explores one of the expedient but rarely effective tools employed in the name of public safety.

History of Lewd Behavior
We explore the ever changing nature of what is acceptable in speech and in mass media.

Hand of the Dead Body
Our Poet Laureate, Eben Eldridge presents a rap number illustrating the hypocrisy of censoring rap lyrics.

The News Stand International
Poet and World Renown Barkeep Hamish Todd tells the story of a quiet book store that almost got a lot quieter. The News Stand in Bellingham, WA was cited in a suit for carrying a (at the time) little read magazine that describes rape scenes in graphic detail. Many agendas were served in the prosecution of an obviously innocent party. They were found innocent, but the hell they went through shows the undemocratic nature of our censorship laws.

Krist Novaselic on Harmful to Minors Legislation
Krist Novoselic illustrates the insidious chilling effect caused by efforts to restrict the availability of music and literature.

The Songs used in the show:

“Hand of the Dead Body”
by Scarface from the album The Diary, Rap-a-lot Records/Noo Trybe Records

“Dirty Old Man”
by The Fugs from Second Album, Fugs Records
